Theatre
The journey of stories
SHTUM
A piece that explores the need of individuals to find refuge from their insecurities. Solitude in Search of company.
Originally performed at the 'Lillian Baylis Theatre' the work then went on to be performed as part of the 'Resolution' and 'Springloaded' Season at the 'Place Theatre'.
It was Lorrainer's first time working alongside a ccomposer creating works with bespoke sound and was the first of a number of works under the banner of 'Lorraine Roberts & Co' whose themes were, as always, personal in nature and driven by a need to explore the person behind the unspoken unsaid voice.
Unrighteous Image
Created as a dance drama this work was a deep and dark work inspired by the film 'The devils' by Ken Russel
Although the work is centred around the depiction of those from a religeous environment it was actually a work struggling with a much broader issue of a sociaty struggling to speak their truth and have their own voice.
Performed by the invitation of 'Company Terasea' this work was a winner of a choreographic award at 'The Laban Centre for Movement and Dance' now known as 'Trinity Laban' and was performed at 'The Place' Theatre as part of their resolution series.
Forever Walls and reflections
An impassioned and provocative work dealing with fear, pain and emotional denial it was created for the 'Lillian Baylis Theatre' before moving on to 'Spring Loaded' at the Place Theatre via invitation.
Originally inspired by Lorraine's expereince working as a 'Catwalk' Choreographer for company 'NO LOGO' this work was interested in the human being behind the mask of gestures, contrived words and clothing. It's a work that poses the question: what happens when you take these away and leave only the true unhidden self, a persons inner feelings that are so often hidden behind their 'Forever Walls'
Sadly the record of this work has long been lost so there is little left of the first half of the show which was with three dancers and extensive lycra dresses that criss crossed across the stage, tied on either side to the lighting rigs. A mass of costume, entrapping the performers together in a precarious and entangled dance that threatened to rip away their defenses revealing their true and bare selves.
Maybe one day we will have the opportunity to recreate the visuals in this work but for now these low quality images are all that are left.
